WHY IS ARTISTIC SENSIBILITY IMPORTANT IN ABSTRACT PAINTING? – PART I

The essence of how we feel individually about the individualistic nature of abstract paintings is as subjective as it gets. While one feels a particular way about a creation, another may have an absolutely contrasting viewpoint to look at the creation. It is however, in this diversity of viewpoints, opinions, feelings and interpretations that meaning gets derived to be kept or not. There can be multiple ways to approach art in general and specific ways to approach abstract paintings in context or emotion. Depending on what we draw from details such as a themed collection or exhibition of paintings, titles and the context of the artists when they created, for example Guernica by Picasso.

Meaning and Feeling, Impression and Impact, Love and Dislike, are all super subjective work to work, time to time, creator to creator even. There is an inherent appeal to styles, colours, form, spaces and places that we all have our tastes and preferences with. In all this, there is a channel to find, discover, quest for, investigate or research to find a truth that drives us to create a possibility of magic. In this inevitable path to inspiration lies the essence of creative prowess and thought consistency to create diversity and variety keeping a certain uniform, sensibility throughout available to viewers and identifiable to the keen investing eye. The style is a thread that runs across time through phases, evolving into a sensibility that creates with its vocal impact, the legacy and lineage that oeuvres like S H Raza, Vasudeo Gaitonde, Claude Monet, Mark Rothko, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Vincent Van Gogh, Cezanne, for example come with, to name a few popular artists.

It is the robust nature of an artistic sensibility that draws viewers to even pay attention for a bit to a creation. This continues to manifest in many ways and adds up multi-fold to the interests of people and converts into a phenomenon for the world to see, whether liked or disliked, cannot be ignored or unknown. That becomes the power of the art beyond the artist.
