How ideas arrive and how they develop to translate into paintings? The magic between Ideas and You!
Ideas can come from anywhere and I mean literally anywhere. Inspiration finds us in any and/or many form(s). Ideas manifest in a variety of ways including in our context, abstract painting and as Pablo Picasso says, “Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working.”. When we are searching for ideas and are in the quest for creation, inspiration automatically finds us and helps us facilitate the process of creation. Have we thought of whether we find ideas or whether ideas find us? Whether it be abstract artists creating abstract paintings for sale or abstract art galleries in Bengaluru or anywhere else, artists have their ways well with ideas. There is no definite, objective approach to the nature or stature of ideas. There can be different ideas manifesting in different ways for different people.
There can be infinite possibilities to debate whether and why ideas find us or the other way around. AT least when it comes to abstract paintings, the abstract painting process itself holds much more than you see at abstract art galleries or art exhibitions in general. The ideation process is one that is extremely intimate, social, maybe even confidential for many artists. The motive while ideating can also be on multiple levels, different in achievement and purpose.
When ideas are brainstormed to be translated into concept, the stage of ideation is very different from when the ideation is the stage of concept then translating to when it will become a painting. The stages of ideation for feedback loops during the creation of the canvas painting process is also a different world as then, it becomes more practical and about the tangibles that we see in terms of form, pattern, shape and colour in abstract paintings. Therefore, the stages of ideation, whether it be abstract paintings as canvas paintings or even sculptures and prints that we see at abstract art galleries, they are all of various types and each to their won for every painting created.
When one abstract painting goes through the same stage that another abstract painting has gone through, the ideation stages itself are experienced differently which is why even while creating the abstract painting, every abstract painting has such a distinct personality of its own. Whether we see it at art galleries in Bengaluru or global art museums, the distinct personas of abstract paintings for sale catch buyers’ eyes due to a personality perception match. In her book, Big Magic, Author Elizabeth Gilbert says, “It is only through a human’s efforts that an idea can be escorted out of the ether and into the realm of the actual.
Therefore, ideas spend eternity swirling around us, searching for available and willing human partners.” She continues to say, “When an idea thinks it has found somebody – say, you – who might be able to bring it into the world, the idea will pay you a visit. It will try to get your attention. Mostly, you will notice.” Let’s look at what she is saying a little deeper to understand how this works in more mysterious ways than we know.
I do feel, pretty strongly that the way ideation works, and the process of a thought coming to us – mostly for me – a as question being the idea in the sense that why can’t I work with this subject, or topic, as a midpoint to take a leap for my research and use the foundational aspects as a springboard to complete whatever it is that is required of me to dig deeper which has all sprung simply from that one thought that what if I can work with this subject for the abstract paintings for sale.
What I feel is very significant as a thought for me is that ideas find us and it is not us who find us. I feel we are eager to find them and so, they find us. If we don’t look around for ideas and we are not in quest of ideas, then we don’t see ideas finding us that easily but what we need to realize is that ideas that we want, find us only when we are looking for them. Intent is always very important. Why do we want to work with an idea and how do we want to develop it?

An idea finds us…
When we are actively looking for ideas and are proactive when we find them, ideas manifest themselves so beautifully that they are always a part of the way life functions after that, whether at home or work. Ideas are about involvement as far as staying with us is concerned. Whether it be abstract paintings for our homes or offices, in terms of paintings for home décor, or abstract paintings at abstract art galleries in Bengaluru or elsewhere, once we show the kind of intent that the idea that has found us is the idea we want to use for whatever we may be looking for it for, solves it for the abstract paintings speaking as an abstract artist.
The exploration of an idea is then, the next exciting stage. When we see a change in the way the idea is behaving after possibilities come into play and once we see what an idea can do, it transforms to absolutely become an invincible possibility if we keep looking for it.
When we stay invested as abstract artists and involved in developing the idea for our abstract paintings, it not only finds us but chooses to stay with us and not leave until explored, developed, translated and results in a creation or a collection as the case may be. There can be multiple iterations of the same idea too. What an idea was, when it came to us, what it is now and what do we see it becoming or even if it has already been made into a painting for us as artists, what has it turned out to be in terms of presence and energy in our clients’ spaces?
This is always a curiosity-provoking question for us as Creators / abstract artists for our abstract paintings as well as for viewers at abstract art galleries in Bengaluru and everywhere art is, wanting to understand ideation’s impacts on resulting experiences, deeper. While we see the numbers on the tabs for ideas going up in our heads, our mind also processes what is relevant to us subjectively and of course naturally, we categorize even ideas on very fundamental grounds in levels from good to bad, such as practicality, rationality, execution ability, feasibility, viability, credibility, accountability, honesty and ownership, to name a few.

The idea stays…
Anything done with involvement and focus, whether abstract paintings or exhibitions at art galleries, it pays off and most of the time, with genuine intent, expected and beyond results can be achieved if involvement and keenness is shown to ideas that come by. ‘An idea’ becomes ‘The idea’ when it stays.
When it chooses you because of the engrossed nature with which you held on to it, when it came by to you, makes it want to stay with you due to the attachment you show it. The idea gets into a mode of cooperating with you where you can work together and develop it to create something magical indeed which is also why I think just the being of ideas and what they can do to one, is so absolutely magical.
An abstract painting first starts with a seed of an idea that fleets as a thought and that fragrance strikes the senses so powerfully that then as abstract artists, we are urged to create some magical abstract paintings and that process of ‘form idea to image’ is an absolutely fascinating experience whether we are abstract artists or performers or creating abstract paintings for sale or even a play! Creative juices flow as they say when there is ideation, developments and implementation in place done meticulously.
There is an excitement with which we could look at an idea as a possibility and go with the notion that may be there is something deeper to explore, always may not be the case though. Whether the idea works ir not artistically for abstract paintings from our side as abstract artists for our canvas paintings, depends upon relevance to what we do. A great idea to one may be a dumb one to another. The idea to whom it is great, is where it ultimately picks up – all questions asked. When an idea is explored in its entirety, according to me, it explodes.
From explore to explode.
The journey for us as abstract artists or whatever our professions be, depends on the relationship one to one between person and the idea which is a very subjective one. Ideas move very carefully as more aspects answer themselves. This runs irrespective of fields. The manifestation of the idea finding you can be one from the past but the right idea finding you as a manifestation of the resulting impact where the result is that which is manifested is completely a different journey of sorts too.
Where one idea goes, another doesn’t and where one idea doesn’t, another will.
Ideas are dynamic beings in my eyes which make you value every moment, whether we choose to hold on tight or let go gracefully. It is our job as artists to identify and leverage the dynamism and beauty of ideation, conception, development and execution.

The idea develops…
As artists, developing the idea is a stage that becomes more interesting than the two stages discussed until now. The idea shows us its many faces as we explore it in phases with possibilities of implementation, representation, ramifications and impacts thereof. While developing ideas, there is always the thought of how effective this possibility will be, or how effective another possibility would be. The power to develop an idea effectively as creators or artists lies in intent of the voice.
What is your voice as an artist and what are you trying to say with the work you are going to create? This will determine everything – the nature of the idea chosen, to how it stays to how it is developed in which direction and why so.
The direction of the idea will then determine what is allowed to be experimented with and how far creativity can push that exploration, conventional or unconventional. There can also be the realm of creation that is a mere thought exercise beyond or besides of any concrete tangible creation. This can be to do with anything – a thought, a hypothetical situation, circumstantial being or even unknown angles on something that has never happened or never been seen. Why it matters is only for one reason and that is because there is always a to be done and to be seen. Something new is any day more exciting than something already done, for exploration, innovation, novelty and growth, all included.
The idea manifests…
When an idea is past the development stage, there is a curiosity as to what is its nature of implementation and regulation in terms of practical use, tangible results or representation and experience. The important point in all of this is that the resulting experience is always what remains a memory to the receiver and the process of the resulting work remains the memory for the artist. The implication of this is to say that as artists, we recall the process of making an artwork and the viewers recall the experience of viewing the artwork created by the artist. Both ‘opposite ends of the spectrum’ sort of memory dynamics.
The inherent type of system that the memory is, something needs to move one, on more than an emotional level to crack a chord which remains out of tune to their tune in order to make. A difference and maybe tune it all better. The intrinsic nature of something organic becoming man-made is always that of marvelousness, of rigor, practice and consequentially mastery, but what determines that an idea has manifested with mastery? Well, one may not necessarily be able to master the idea itself since it is an abstract form, an intangible to deal with and so, cannot also be a determinant in the sense that it will only come to you and nobody in the future or there is no guarantee to also tell you that it hasn’t passed by someone before you. Only the development at that given point and the implementation / execution of an idea can determine if it is done with mastery or not depending on what is being said, what is being received and what impact is it causing to improve and enrich or enhance peoples’ lives.

The idea is executed…
While circumstances can determine much of what one wants to say as an artist, the artist’s mindset, voice, context and specialized practices also determine what he or she chooses to paint or create. The magic of it lies on how the artists do so, how the idea comes through and therefore how it impacts. Executing an idea can be in any form, shape, context, content and purpose. The intent that defines the aim runs all the way to the viewer and buyer. Artistic ideation itself is about buying one version or a few versions of the idea that we can implement or work with the rest of it can pass and we are ok with it, but what about when the idea bought by us as artists to be good ones to create pieces reach the audience? What do we perceive that process to be and what do we see it becoming? Actually, intrinsically, trickling it down to the very bone, an artist’s journey is very heavily determined by these two decisions of which idea (which aspect and part of it) to work with and how to translate it into a painting or an art form? This is only a fundamental two part of I need to be very generic on what an artist’s whole journey of life with their craft looks like.
Ways to determine representation could depend on multiple factors such as:
- The essence of concept drawn from the idea in context of the world we live in, example – the multiple ramifications it can have – political, social, economic, physiological, experiential, sensorial, thematical, scientific, geographic, historic, cultural, ethnic, psychological, physical, and much more as the range and commonality expands.
- Whether the works are realistic or abstract and thematically what they are dealing with where and when, the timelines of not only creation but also all of these sensitivities for reception as well.
- The nature of medium, presentation and representation used based in relation with the contents and contexts’ relevance and validity to life today.
- Not offending sentiments or catering to discriminatory bias in today’s progressive world
- Clarity and focus to tell the story with a good narrative in place to communicate effectively to an audience.
The journey journalled…
The miracle by which a seed of an idea that comes to us as abstract artists turns into a magnificent abstract painting for sale, to someone who puts it in their homes or offices, and then what it does in a space creating energy and ambience is so wondersome, whether it be abstract paintings for home or abstract paintings for offices and so on. According to me, an idea or ideas find you, where you look for them. Good, worthwhile ideas, each to their own, don’t just appear from nowhere if we aren’t curious. That is what even Pablo Picasso meant when he said Inspiration does exist and it needs to find you working.
If we do not work, nothing of substance, that makes a difference to us as abstract artists or to our abstract paintings as creations of dedication, devotion, passion and love, may find us and stay. It may fleet and move or go away to someone who is seeking it out more, more than you, even when you seek and at that time, we say things that are meant for us will find us, well it is all in the situation and in the circumstance.
There is a beauty in documenting these ideations, iterations, aspects, facets and the process of the building result (which in our case, as abstract artists is an abstract painting, a canvas painting). It is one of wonderment and marvelousness when looked at into the possibilities of the human minds’ sheer capabilities. A journal of ideas and brainstorming is something I highly recommend to anyone on a creative journey. There is whimsical, random, premeditated, meticulously derived as well as all sorts of magic in there. The magic you seek, you find, and what you find, is yours! Only yours to keep before you let it go too easily.

Therefore…
Ideas are beautiful and dynamic and all things magical! Which is why we need to keep working until the inspiration finds us and then we create more magic to share with the world as artists with our works of art which will live on, after and beyond us if we do it well enough and give ideas to someone else who wants to pursue anything in the contours of what we do and why we do what we do!
