THE SEEN AND UNSEEN IN ART

French Artist (classic painter) Edgar Degas once said “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”

Why do we make art? Does art need a purpose or can we let it be for what it is and let people make purpose out of it for who they are or want to be? What the artist sees doesn’t need to be shown as it is, or portrayed in reality or truth the viewers.

The channel of painting is also a way of framing a scene like a photograph. The artist chooses the revealed and hidden. The motives or purpose of the painting is what determines the composition and metaphoric or direct elements obviously. Therefore, even paintings are mad with purpose and not just as simple as I see it so I paint it. yes, there is beauty in that too but what is it that we are trying to do as artists through opur works as part of what we see as creators and what we want our viewers to see is something very important to think about.

What one feels or how one is impacted by a work of art is only about what one sees in the work. Well over what the artist wants one to see or what the artists sees to begin with.
