WHY CREATIVE DECISIONS MATTER IN PAINTINGS

Decisions could be big and small, crucial and not so important, tough and easy, imaginative and practical, extraordinary and ordinary, hasty and patient, good and bad subjectively, comprehensible and sometimes not. When it is about our creations, maybe all kinds play a role. As an expanse of nothingness that a Creator sees for example, in a blank canvas offering opportunity, the same could be in another lens, full and intense.

Why? Well, why not?

Creative decisions are determining decisions, each one, saying yes and no to colours, textures, elements, background, foreground, tone, contrast, dynamism, composition and so much more! Every act in the creative process could be viewed as a determining decision so as to how an outcome / the work as a consequence is constructed. Decisions can be made in multiple ways on multiple levels by various entities along the timeline or in the process. It could be a linear process, a learning curve, a loop / cycle or incrementally progressive process never to turn back. Depends purely on the nature of the creation as well as in equal parts the creator’s sensibility. (Notwithstanding) Decisions could also be driven purely by situational states of mind and body / circumstances.

What a certain creation demands in terms of concept, process, work therefore and outcome too, could become a significant layer upon the foundation layer of decisions as to the above stated parameters. Fundamental decisions such as the parameters stated above could determine deeper portrayal of substantial meaning in creations, as a consequence of authentic decision-making.

We all make creative decisions with every work, even before we start, even after we complete it. It is thus, an endless process of discovery and exploration to exploit possibilities of  what comes as a boon, evergreen creative freedom.

Determining Decisions.
